Screen printing - technology
Screen printing is a technique which has a very wide range of applications and involves printing directly onto an object. Our printing house specialises in printing on textiles (t-shirts, sweatshirts, bags, sacks and other similar soft objects). The basic feature of marking screen printing is durability, the print provides incredible resistance to washing, abrasion and other external conditions. Thanks to the use of appropriate inks, we can print on materials such as cotton, polyesters and other artificial ones such as non-woven polypropylene.
The second feature that makes screen prints is unbeatable is the cost of the marking service itself. The possibility of making a print in a short production time means that labour costs are reduced to a minimum, thanks to which the client pays less for the whole realisation. We are able to produce about 20,000 prints a day using this method, which is testament to our excellent logistics.
We do not apply minimum print runs for which we can carry out marking, but we recommend a minimum of 30 to 50 prints - due to the one-off cost needed to prepare the printing plates, which is amortised in this quantity.
Screen printing is performed on top class automatic machines made by an American company M&R, which ensure incredible precision, speed and, most importantly, repeatability. We currently have three screen printing machines: 6-colour, 8-colour and 10-colour. Each print is fixed in the drying tunnel which guarantees 100% resistance to washing. In our printing house, we use only brand-name, ecological, phthalate-free inks - each of them is certified for printing on clothing (ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX®), and the printed colours are consistent with the PANTONE® Solid Coated colour chart.
The standard t-shirt print size we can produce is:
– 50 x 55 cm - Screen printing on blanks or very large T-shirts.
– 35 x 45 cm - Screen printing on classic T-shirts.
– 25 x 35 cm - Screen printing on bags, sacks and children's T-shirts.
– 10 x 30 cm - Screen printing on sleeves, arms, legs.
Most of the works are made with plastisol paints, but on customers request we also print with water paints (soft to the touch) or lint paints (imperceptible to the touch). Moreover, we use all possible screen printing effects such as 3D print, swelling print, glow-in-the-dark print, reflective print, wet droplet effect, cracking print (ageing), print with metallic paints, print with glitters etc. We provide comprehensive services for the decoration of garments such as additional personalization by sewing on clothing labels or packaging and confectioning of garments. With many years of experience in the field of comprehensive advertising services for companies and institutions, our prices for clothing prints are an offer that is constantly gaining new customers.

Advantages of screen printing
Versatile use of screen printing
- Screen printing technology is an extremely versatile technique for marking objects. The printing method is used on a great many items such as T-shirts. Screen printing is used for marking on clothing, plastics, glass, wood and many other materials.
- Screen printing is characterised by a high level of colour saturation, particularly visible when printed on textiles such as T-shirts or promotional bags. Thanks to the use of screen printing nets with different weave densities our prints will always be clear and the colours fully saturated. With larger runs, tonal gradients are possible to print.
Low price of screen printing
- This is the cheapest marking technique available on the market. With a high print run the price should not exceed a dozen or so cents! This method is attractive in terms of price especially with higher expenditure, therefore it is recommended for minimum orders of 30-50 pieces.
Durability of the print
- The key to obtaining a high durability of a print made using this method is the selection of the appropriate paint for the surface to be marked. The experience we have gained over the years guarantees that the prints made in our company will be of the highest quality. The use of printing inks from renowned manufacturers ensures that the prints will be resistant to UV radiation, moisture, mechanical damage or washing, among other things.
Versatility of screen printing
- Logos can be screen printed on both flat and cylindrical surfaces. We print on flat surfaces using automatic printers, the so-called carousels for screen printing. Cylindrical screen printing requires the use of a rotary table. The precision of screen printing depends on the density of the stencil mesh.
Screen printing - FAQ
No, we do not use minimum print runs. With screen printing we are able to print even one piece, but this is associated with a fairly high price, which includes the cost of preparing the matrix for printing. Before printing we always advise our customers which marking method to choose in order to optimise printing costs. Screen printing is not the best option when it comes to low-volume printing. Techniques such as Flex, DTG Digital Printing, Sublimation or even Computer Embroidery are much more suitable. But in the end, of course, it's up to the customer to decide whether screen printing is the best option for them or not. On the other hand, there have been times when, before printing a large run, a customer simply wanted a sample of the final, finished product. In this case we applied the rule that the price of the sample would include any preparation costs for printing, which would then be discounted in the final order. The advantages of screen printing could be listed for a long time, but the most important is undoubtedly the price.
Screen printing, like any printing technique, has its advantages and disadvantages. The main advantages of screen printing are: cost at higher volumes, speed of marking, possibility of using inks for special effects. The disadvantage of screen printing is undoubtedly the need for time-consuming preparation for printing, i.e. separation of colours, making of stencils and changeover of carousels, which at low expenditure may quite significantly influence the price of the final product. Customers often ask us whether screen printing is the best and most durable printing method. Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this question. Everything depends, not even on the screen printing technique itself, but on what substrate it will be printed on and how it will be used. This is a very durable and at the same time economical decorating technique especially recommended for printing on clothing: T-shirts, sweatshirts, cotton materials. Screen printing is a technique which is characterised by high resistance to washing. It should be taken into account that tonal transitions are difficult to obtain.
Screen printing is a printing technique in which the price of printed garments is significantly influenced by the cost of preparation for decoration. The so-called Pre-Press process itself is quite time-consuming and complicated, therefore it has a significant influence on the price of screen-printing services. We estimate that the minimum edition where this service becomes profitable is an edition of over 50 pieces, of course there are cases that screen printing is profitable and chosen by customers below this number, but in most cases it should be assumed that 50 pieces is such an optimal amount.

Printing on T-shirts using the screen printing technique is carried out by forcing the ink through matrices using a squeegee. In other words, T-shirt printing is carried out using screen printing templates. Of course it is possible to carry out different sized prints on T-shirts depending on the size of the garment, but this will incur a cost when preparing a new design.
Screen printing what is it? - printing technology or how we do it
Screen printing mesh
There would be no screen printing without a mesh. At BODMAN we use rectangular aluminium frames with a nylon mesh stretched over them, on which the stencil is exposed. In textile printing we usually use nets containing from 100 to 150 fibres per centimetre (the mesh has then a diameter of 30 to 40 micrometres). It is up to an experienced printer to choose the right netting for the prepared graphics and printed assortment. It is very important to choose the right mesh density. For example, the density will be different for light fabrics and for dark fabrics, different for dark inks, different for light inks and different for white inks! The advantages of screen printing are also such that tonal transitions can be made.
Making a printing form
The emulsion-coated stencil is placed in a drying chamber to dry completely. Then, after hardening the stencil goes to the machine called copiorama and here it is exposed to UV light. Now there is nothing else to do, but to wash with water under high pressure the unexposed and thus also uncured photosensitive emulsion. Thus prepared stencil is ready for further work.
Screen printing inks
We use two types of screen printing inks: water-based and plastisol inks. Water-based inks are odourless, do not contain PVC or formaldehyde, and can be used to print on very dense mesh. The main advantage of plastisol inks is their higher hiding power and wide application. In our company we use plastisol inks of proven manufacturers that have the necessary OEKO TEX certificates. These paints are completely safe for people and harmless to the environment. The main advantage of plastisol inks in screen printing is that they do not dry on the sieve. Full resistance of the inks to washing is obtained after fixing them at 160°C.
The screen printing process is carried out by forcing paint through a stencil using automatic screen printing presses. In our studio there are 3 fully automatic presses, so called screen printing carousels, which enable printing with a circulation of up to 20 000 pcs. / day.
During printing on the screen printing carousel plastisol paints are spread on the entire surface of the stencil and then, with the squeegee moving along the surface, they are forced through open mesh directly onto the printed object. In case of multicolour graphics the operation is repeated on the next workstation, where a sablon with a different colour is installed. Then the object is placed in the drying chamber, where the ink is fully cured. The temperature needed to trigger this process is equal to 160°C.
Removing the screen stencil
In order to recover the stencil, which is necessary for other works, it must be de-peeled. This is done with the help of chemicals.
In BODMAN company we are committed to ecology that is why we use for this purpose a special machine, which in a closed circuit washes and de-wraps screen printing screens, removing remains of paint from the matrix and previously hardened photosensitive emulsion. The stencil washed out of paint in such a way is ready to be reused in the process of screen printing.
